Measuring is as simple as...
Position, Align & Measure
Position - Unfold the BocceStik. Using guidelines on its base, POSITION it side-center (left or right side) of the pallino while aiming the Measuring Scale toward the same side of the bocce ball being measured.
Align - Tilt the BocceStik back, then ALIGN & set the Measuring Scale down along side-center of the bocce ball being measured.
Measure - Look down over the center of the bocce ball to MEASURE, and take a side-center measurement reading to determine the distance.

Point, Mark & Measure
Point - Position, align and POINT the BocceStik measuring scale down and toward the side-center of the bocce ball being measured.
Mark - Remove the Measuring Pointer from side of BocceStik handle and establish your repositioning MARK with the pointed-side down on the ground just in front of the end-corner of Measuring Scale.
Measure - While holding your mark, reposition the BocceStik toward your mark and align the base guideline at that mark while positioning the measuring scale along side-center of the bocce ball being measured. Once positioned, MEASURE and take your measurement reading.

Measuring Tips

Tip #1
POINT MEASUREMENTS - Before taking any measurements to determine points, clear all bocce balls out of the way that you know are not in play.
Tip #2
TAKING MEASUREMENT READINGS - Once you have the BocceStik positioned and aligned for measurement (side-center left or right of the ball), always stand directly over the ball being measured. Looking down at the side-center of the ball and where it aligns with the BocceStik Scale, the measurement number showing at the point of alignment on the BocceStik Measuring Scale against the center of the ball is your measurement distance reading. Repeat exactly these same steps when measuring the distances of all competing balls.
Tip #3
SIDE/BACK/CORNER RAIL INTERFERENCE - When a bocce ball court's back, side or corner rails interfere with positioning the BocceStik Base and/or its Measuring Scale, reverse your measuring technique with the BocceStik such that you are measuring from the bocce ball to the pallino. Also, you can change how you align and measure (e.g., instead of side-center to side-center you can measure front-center to side-center) and still get the same measuring accuracy and consistency.
See following illustration on Rail Measuring Techniques:
Tip #4
MEASURING LONGER DISTANCES - Once you've positioned and aligned the BocceStik toward the ball you need to measure, take out the Measuring Pointer that is stored along side of the BocceStik handle and use it to mark a spot at the end of the BocceStik Measuring Scale. Next, reposition and align the BocceStik from that reference point toward the ball being measured. For more details on how to measure longer distances click here.
